Can anyone give me some leads on old homesite, or just likely areas to look for items and coins?

I have never hunted in that area and don't know if anyone has. It is very close to the National Park which you can not hunt in. I would recommend googling the schools and parks (not the National Park). That is where a lot of us find our places to hunt. The internet will give you a lot of places to hunt as well as the library. Good luck and let us know what you find.

Yeah, you're probably right because I never see or hear about anyone doing much metal detecting. The only real problem I forsee is that people in this area are a little stand off-ish so getting persmission to hunt might be the hardest part. I'll let you know when I discover some real treasure.

Right on, that's a pretty good idea. That's what I been trying to do is just grab as much info from the old heads as I can. I could wander out there aimlessly but I'd like to get some generalized areas to start. But that was good advice. I appreciate it.

I have one really good old place where my grandmother was raised, but it's so grown up. And I have the most basic model of metal detector so I don't know how efficient I could be. But I'm definitely going to give it a shot maybe later in the year when all the grass and weeds die down. Can you give me any advice. I'm a beginner at best.

I've got the cheapest thing white's has. The coinmaster I think it's called. I've found all sorts of items with it, but judging by what I see and read they come a lot nicer and quite a bit more sophisticated.

The whites coinmaster is a great machine! Simple, yet effective. Dont get too ahead of yourself by looking at what I would call the "next best thing". Learn your machine...AND LEARN IT... AND LEARN IT.... until you know it to a T.  Try and remember what certain items that you dig ring up as on your detector. I think the most important thing that ANY person that has any experience in the detecting field will tell you is... "know your machine!"

Hope that helps, and let us know if you have any other questions.

Yeah, I'm pretty much digging up everything at this point just to learn what items show up as what on the screen. And like ya said, just getting familiar and learning the machine.

You might consider mowing the place your grand mother lived. It just depends on how bad it is. I've done that on two different occasions. If the ownerwill let you it might be worth while

Thats some pretty good advice. Heck, whoever owns it might be more open to letting you hunt there if you say you are willing to work for a chance at some good finds.
