Ok guys I have another whatzit.  I think it is a modern bullet that has been smashed but I'm no bullet expert.  It is made of lead and about 3/4" long.  Let me know what you think.

yes im sure its a bullet, the big ridges are the gas seal and the smaller grooved ring is where the bullet is pressed in the case, the opening in the bottom is what they call a boat tail it helps "cup" the powder blast to carry it out of the gun faster....   have no clue why it would be flattened like that though

And you thought you were having trouble with your detector. WTG!!!! with the bullet. As far as being flattened on one side..... duh!...... it's been fired. And that's always better than a ''dropped'' bullet, because it was engaged ''in action''.

Uh oh I found two of those in past week at same spot. I threw them away thought they were the tops to pencils.  Huh?  Since its bullets are they valuable in anyway because I'm willing to dig through my garbage can if this has any value. lol

Bullets are always worth something. Just all depends upon age, identification, etc. Never throw bullets away or anything else your not positive of the id. Always post it with a picture or 2 and see what the responses are first. Plus there are bunches of youngsters out there who would love to be given something like this as a prize in a club kids hunt.

It's old but not old enough to be civil war.  The little ridges in the grooves are the giveaway for these.  Don't, however, get any preconceived ideas about what is and is not a civil war bullet as there are some really weird shaped civil war bullets.
