What would make a very active member, one who pro-actively advocates and supports the club, suddenly decide they've had enough, and quit? Any thoughts? Any idea's on how this happen's?

Well Ralph I don't know about anyone else but I am very close to that point as well. It seems no one wants to post their finds and when they do only a handful even reply to them. I just got back from a hunt in Virginia and posted my very rare finds and very few have even replied to the post even though several members have been logging in each day. This hunt was the first of its kind and there will be future hunts as well. I have talked about these hunts for a long time but no one seems interested in going. So I just don't understand why no replies. Are members jealous, don't care or just not interested in Civil War finds. I have been very involved in this club and really enjoy it but I too am getting to the point of is it really worth it. In the past I have put on several club hunts on some sites that I have researched and people have found some good stuff and I want to do it again but if there is no interest then why should I do all the work. I don't mean to be negative but I just don't understand why there is no support on the club forum. Sorry I had to vent Ralph but I too am disappointed and don't know what to do about making it better. I will try to make the next meeting and hope we can see what can be done.

I've not been a member very long and the forum has been like this since I have been a part of it.  I would hate to see you guys hang it up for I'm new and just getting involved in the club.  I've sensed some tension between some of the members at the meetings but you have that in any club.  I joined the club hoping to get in on some club hunts with a chacne to find some good things as well as learn from the guys who have been detecting for years.  As for not posting finds, I post them regulary but after a recent vote it was determined that you cannot mention that you have made a find if you plan on submitting it for a find of the month.  Don't know why others have not submitted finds maybe they are just not getting out to hunt.  I don't get a lot of time myself but I do try and get out for a few hours a couple of times a week.  I guess this hobby is like every other hobby.  After a bit some people get tired of it.  Don't see that ever happening with me because I'm hooked and will be for life.  I hope this doesn't offend anyone for that was not my intent.  I just hate to see a good thing like this club fail.  It takes more than a few to make any club a success and hopefully we can save this one.

No offense taken, Mike. This has been a problem way before the vote was taken to keep secret, find's to be submitted for '' Monthly finds''. Everyone knew it was to prevent ''cronyism'', and they all agreed. The problem is, we have a ''CLUB'', and there are many catagories to post in, from what do think about this, to look what I found, to what's up and ****-o. The web site is being maintained and PAID for by one person, out of his own pocket! That's what I'm upset about. The lack of participation, and lack of gratitude, is shamefull!!! My thinking is this, why should I, or anyone, spend my hard earned money..... $20 bucks to join, $25-30 bucks twice a year for a hunt, and $20 a meeting for tickets. That's like being married! Geeeeesh!!!
