I can't believe how slow postings have been on here lately. Where is everyone? Not only finds but just general talking. Anyone have any ideas? I post on six different sites and this one seems to have the least interest from its members. What can we do to increase involvement?

I would say the problem is this forum is local people only. The other forums are nation wide members is why they are more active.

Yeah I know most of the others are bigger but even with the numbers we have in our club there still should be some type of interest in talking and posting.

I've been talking about this, as you well know, for a year now!! Personally, I think we all need to move on. I sent Ralph W. my resignation tonight. I, and I think most folk's, need a club with more dynamic participation. Smarts, today, is not the place! Don't know where I'll wind up...... but it has to be better than here.

I tried my best to add members from around the world but very very few joined. I don't know what to do or how to do it to get more members. I sent out a multitude of emails to other clubs but I never received a single reply to any of them. If you have any ideas please share them. I will do all I can before May when I resign as co- web master and turn everything over to the club.

I have to admit that I have been guilty of sitting on my butt and not participating.  I have just recently decided to get involved in the Forum.  It's fun and I'm sorry it took me so long.    This is the 5th club that I have joined in the past 42 years.  Each club no matter what the size had about 25% of it's members who actually participated in activities although at least 75% attended the meetings and hunts.  While all 4 of the other clubs had more activities than SMARTS, it was just the few members who were active in things like this Forum.  Granted none of them had the convenience of the internet like we have,  but still it was just the few who could be dependent upon to do anything other than meetings and hunts.  But, those few still had fun.  So in my experience, it appears that this club is no different than others I had joined.  I will say that in all 4 of the other clubs, when new members joined, members would invite them on hunts and were not adverse to sharing some of their favorite spots.   This resulted in many new hunting partners and friendships. Also, there were more group hunts setup. With few exceptions, I don't see the camaraderie in SMARTS that could make it more fun.  Scruch, I wish you would reconsider and stay with us, we need members who care.

Maybe it's time for everyone to just relax, take a break and enjoy the season to remember what christ did for us many years ago. We are so fortunate here to be able to get out and enjoy the beauty around us and the health we are given to do these things. We are not promsed tomorrow so we chearish each day and the friends we've made along the way.I've had 5 or 6 friends that just a month ago were going about everyday life that no longer are here to enjoy life. Everyone don't have computers or maybe not be comfortable using one or may be having more pressing issues in their daily life to be involved as much as they would like. Anyway, I guess what I'm trying to say is to try not to judge everyone to harshly. I personally think I've made new friends since joining the club, and enjoy meeting with folks once a month for fellowship and to see what they've found. I guess I've said enough so have a good day and may God bless each and everyone this season

Well said Ragin Cajun and Larry.Maybe the more we try to fix things the more we distance everyone.Maybe there is only a select few that does everything,we have fun doing it.You can lead a horse to water but you can't make em drink.I say we keep doing things the way we've been doing them and if others want to be more active and join in so be it.I say there is no reason to up and quit because of lack of participation. But if that's what one wants to do so be it.Hope to see everyone at the meeting tonight.I am in town.

Well guys and gals.....as you know, I have been on the mend from a broken heart. The love of my life decided I wasn't the love of her life. So after 23+ years she is divorcing me. Thank goodness the kids are well into their teens and as such the pain "tho still there" is more bearable. Well, my wounds are scabbed over and on the way to just being scars. So, alas!.....I am dusting off the detectors and breaking out the books and maps once again. I have charged up the batteries and downloaded a "slew" of programs for the XLT. Hunting up the probes, diggers, pinpointer and such, and compiling a E-kit. So once again, I will be active on the forums and will be seen on occasion in the dirt. Well....yesterday it was in the mud! Found one penny on top of the ground at a small church play area. Anyone wants to plan a hunt or just a day together to swap "fish stories" just give me a shout. Keep swinging, keep digging and keep smiling!

Harold I hate things didn't work out but sometimes crap happens and there is nothing we can do but move on.  Beatnu I sure hope you get those meds for your seizures under control soon. It won't be long before we can go gold panning. With all of this rain I think we can safely say see everyone in the swamps.
