TV auctioneers sell off storage locker... only for buyer to find it filled with 200-year-old pirate treasure worth $500,000

A pair of TV auctioneers have made their most prized sale yet, after selling off a storage locker which contained 200-year-old pirate treasure worth $500,000
Dan and Laura Dotson, who front the U.S. reality show 'Storage Wars' auction off foreclosed lockers without them - or the buyer - knowing what is inside.
And the pair handed over a rare haul of treasure relics from before the 19th century during a recent sale, when they sold the unit on for just $1,000.

Laughing to the bank: 'Storage Wars' stars Dan and Laura Dotson stumbled upon their most incredible discovery yet - a pirates' chest brimming with gold coins
In one of the most valuable sales in the history of their show, pirate treasure was found in the locker which was later described as 'Pieces of Eight Spanish Gold' from between the 16th and 19th century.
The unit containing the pirate treasure had been auctioned off from Contra Costa in California.

The biggest beneficiary from the treasure find was the buyer, who had gambled on the sale without having any idea what was inside the locker.
The box of coins found in the locker was so heavy that it required three people to move it out of storage, according to TMZ.

Find: The storage locker was said to contain genuine 'doubloons' dating from before the 19th century and said to be worth $500,000
An appraisal expert has since valued the locker's contents at $500,000.
Responding to a tweet yesterday, auctioneer Dan Dotson described his shock at the value of the foreclosed locker.
He said of the find: 'We had no idea! We only heard from the excited buyer and storage facility owner! Great find of a lifetime.'
Storage Wars, on A&E, is one of the channel's most-watched shows, attracting an average 4.7millions weekly viewers during its last series.

I've watched Storage Wars several times.  Mostly the buyers get skunked, but occasionally they get some real treasures for their money.  It's amazing how many times fights almost break out between bidders.  Some of those people get really serious.  I'm sure it's mostly for show, but it is still entertaining.
