    * R-5: Between 75 and 200
    * R-6: Between 20 and 75
    * R-7: Between 10 and 20
    * R-8: Between 5 and 10
    * R-9: Between 2 and 4
    * R-10: Unique (one known example)

Good question!  I believe the databases online and active token collectors keep good track of these.  So, they have somewhat Idea on how many have been dug or undug.

just thought i would add the rarity criteria for coal scrip as per edkins coal scrip book

R1       300 or more
R2       200-299
R3       150-199
R4       100-149
R5         75-99
R6         50-74
R7         25-49
R8         10-24
R9           5-9
R10         1-4

i am especially interested in coal tokens from TN, TX, OH, AL and a few other states...but not WV,VA,KY,or PA
i can offer my assistance in helping ID a token.
i also collect lumber tokens.
not sure if leaving my email address is okay or not but here it is  i can always remove it...  intimer@earthlink.net
