Recovering & Preserving America's Past

HMMMM that is an intresting one, I cannot say wheter it is real or not, I believe that it may be from the civil war. I will say this I found a pewter CSA plate about 6 months ago, afetr posting it on several forums I got alot of feedback some saying it was fake some saying very rare piece. So I took it to a relic show in Charleston SC for some of the most experienced well knowledged people to look at.  They came to the conclusion that my plate was an unknown-undocumented plate, and mine was the only one known to exsist, making it a priceless piece of history.  So you never know there are still many relics in the ground that have not been documented and you may have one.  I think the reason that more people are calling it a reproduction or a fake is b/c of its lack of "oldish" patena look.  If I were you I would go with the old saying "You found, You call it"  I think its a great find real or not, keep at it Wink

TAKE IT TO THE FRAMEWORKS IN WEST KNOXVILLE, near Best Buy and next door to Staples.  Why live in limbo?  Ask a dealer.  He'll tell you what he thinks it is in 2 minutes flat.

The guy at Frameworks told me my sword looked fake then his dad tried to trade me a civil war pistol for it as I was leaving. I just took it to framewoks to showoff, but all they wanted to do was tell me how fake it looked and try to buy it off me. I'll stick to Gerald Augustus in Lenoir City. He's been the nicest and most polite collector I have met yet. He also has extensive knowledge about the Civil War. He wrote the book 'The Loudon County Area of East Tennessee in the War 1861-1865' which is a highly sought book.

I'm not really in Limbo. We know where it was found and don't plan on selling it. We hunt for the thrill not profit. My friend and I will take it to Augustus here soon.

Amen.....it is NOT always about immediate financial gain! Sometimes standing in the middle of the woods looking at a shard of history you start to look around and wonder: who, when, why? How did it get to be there.......how valuable it must have been to the owner......what where the circumstances of it becoming lost. I often find myself not detecting but just standing and looking.....often it is a peaceful moment and I don't want it to end..

I'm glad you posted it.  This artifact has generated a lot of interest.  BRING IT TO THE NEXT CLUB MEETING!!!!  CHARLIE HARRIS WROTE ONE OF THE MAIN REFERENCE WORKS ON CIVIL WAR ARTIFACTS AND, AS I RECALL, HE IS THE GUEST SPEAKER.  Opinions are like noses, everybody's got one.  His opinion, however, carries some weight in the field.

I'd like to see it too!

One time, I dug a1/2" x 2-1/2" long lead bar that said (in raised letters) "....UCKY"  I thought "KENT" but someone eelse said "L" and I eventually gave up.

Well, Augustus said he has never saw anything like it.

On leaving, he said he wasn't sure Jeremy's dad wasn't playing a trick on us.

The mystery continues...
