Years ago I was searching a railroad depot in Florida. This depot had a small "yard" that was surrounded by a hedgerow. It was situated right on a main road, so I thought "this place has been hunted to death!". Several times I passed this site and ALWAYS concluded it had been hunted out. Finally one day my mother and I where in the area and she had to search this depot.....I told her there was most likely nothing to be found, but she insisted. Wwweeeelllllll.........this place apparently had NEVER been hunted! Unbelievable! We found (3) 1909 pennies in the same hole.....V nickels.....tons of silver and even a few Indian Heads. The best find by far was a signal I almost gave up on. I had a great signal at the base of the hedgerow and dug down about 6" with a hole about 8" across......nothing! Now this is Florida where the ground is mostly sand so digging isn't hard so I probed deeper and around the hole and NOTHING. I filled it in and moved on......about an hour later I went back and tried again......10 minutes and nothing. I filled in and moved on.....well after a brief lunch, I told my mother I was going to check one more time and then that was it! I went back to the spot, removed the dirt and decided to cut the hole out to about 12" wide. On the second scoop.......A GLINT OF GOLD! No way! This doesn't happen to me! After cleaning the sand off I was holding the biggest gold wedding band I have ever seen! To make a long story short......it weighed 33 dwt, was from around 1924 and was etched with orange blossom leaves. I must have passed the probe straight through the middle of it! SSsssooo......never assume a sight is worked just because it is easy access and NEVER give up on a signal!
