Just a tired old fool!

When we first moved here onto the property, I was nosing around in the woods (we have 55 acres) and found quite a dump of trash and bottles. Found a Tenn 1955 car tag and tons of Maryville, TN coke bottles amoung many others. I still haven't excavated the dump fully yet, but it has gave up many "keepers" so far.

I believe that if you are not willing to share information about the location of a site you're having luck in, you shouldn't post and brag about it...too many relic hunting clubs tend to degenerate into "cliques" of closed-mouth folks who aren't very friendly to those they consider "outsiders"..... If you find good stuff in your backyard, I don't expect you to let me come and dig.  Smiley

Well...I reckon that's the difference between you and me...I believe in sharing information, the thrill of the hunt, and holding history in your hand....

I hope you are not seriously peeved about this. I am only joking around. The only reason I even posted this was because there wasn't a post in the bottle forum. I haven't dug in the dump in about 2 years. So if you are serious, I am sorry. I have been hunting for over 21 years and have never intentionally withheld information of a good site. On the contrary, I am always eager to have company and I know for a fact that I cannot possibly recover everything. I am in the process of researching watering holes in Blount County and when I get info I will freely present it to anyone who will listen. I enjoy uncovering history and feel it is very important to share it and I truley respect it and stand in awe of the trials and tribulations of our ancesters. If you are upset about this, again I am sorry......if you are joking as I am......even better, for humor and laughter is surely the fountain of youth.

...nah...I ain't "peeved" about it...was just concerned about the possible "mindset" of club members...was hoping that most were willing to share their info/experiences...although as an avid fisherman, I can relate to not wanting to share my "hot spot" with just anyone...but a fellow enthusiast/friend I have made by association...no problem... I think we would all stand to gain a lot if there were more information shared within the club. I'd rather see everything dug up rather than covered up any day.

...on the other hand I would like it to somehow stay within the club and not be shared with all internet surfing types of people.

Neat story Harold. +1

Ah......good point! I had almost forgotten that anyone can read these posts. Maybe there should be a members only forum. They have that on other sites. Smiley

And the one exception in sharing all ones information is like in all clubs there will be those individuals that abuse that information and ruin the site for everyone by over hunting it .
