....pulled from a trash pit in the camp of the 5th Corps, Army of the Potomac, in an area known as Mine Run, west of the Wilderness battlefield in VA...along with this buckle, most of the parts to a P1853 Enfield musket were found..Huh?  This type of buckle is known as a "Puppy Paw" type because of the round studs used instead of the more commonly found arrowhead type...if you look closely, you can still see remnants of the silver wash which was applied to the hook & studs to prevent the brass from staining the uniform...

I always see all those nicks and scrathes and wonder how that happened...  Did he have to hit the dirt and a rock got his buckel?  Turn quickly on the horse to respond and scraped it on something....love looking at this stuff.
