Hey everyone,

New guy here!  My name is John and I was recently given a slightly used chepo metal detector, and have begun using it.  I am new to the are and am interested in meeting like minded people.

I look forward to meeting the group and doing some detecting!

Being new to the area I am interested in some of the local laws as they pertain to detecting.  Such as city ordinance, county, or state.  Basically I don't want to get my behind in a sling.  Any links to useful info?

If you hunt on TVA property like around the shores you will need a TVA metal detecting permit and they are free. Most parks and schools are ok. Stay out of state parks and national parks. Get permission if you hunt on private property.

Yeah, that about covers it... Getting permission is especially important when hunting private property. Just because a house is vacant on a corner lot...doesn't mean its open for searching without permission. Stuff like that.
